About Onya
Onya is a private practice rooted in holistic healing. Going to therapy does not need to mean just showing up for a one hour session, once per week. I value therapy that offers you space to feel, to think, and to embody. I value therapy that offers you something that you want to integrate into your day to day life, so that eventually therapy does not feel like a necessity. To do this, I hope to connect you to a library of healing modalities that support your entire body, not just your mind. If you have been to therapy and felt like you left with new ideas, but did not embody change, my goal is for this to be different for you.
About Hunter
I am a mindfulness based therapist, passionate about interweaving multiple healing modalities for more holistic healing from trauma, anxiety, and grief, among other things. Many of us have wounds from our past or present that hold power over us. I aim to help my clients build skills to reconnect with their mind, body, and life, so they are equip to give attention to those wounds. Some of the modalities I work from include EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family systems (also referred to as inner child work), and Somatic Therapy. You can learn more about those modalities here.
My values in therapy
A Metaphor for Emotions
One metaphor I often come back to in my work as a therapist is that of a young child who wants your attention. At first they ask nicely, "hey look at this." We might believe we are too busy or it is unimportant, so we don't look up. Then the child asks a little more sternly so we might glance up, and brush them off again. Eventually the child is having a tantrum and we may feel frustrated or confused as to why. Our emotions are the same, often showing up for our attention kindly. We ignore unwanted emotions because we believe they are too much for us to handle, or they will bring us down, but this only makes them come out in more intense ways like a strike of anger, an anxiety attack, or a wave of depression. I aim to help clients acknowledge their emotions earlier on, approach emotions with self compassion, tune back into their intuition on what their emotions need, and trust their ability to fulfill those needs.
Compassion
Compassion is a huge part of healing. We often approach our mental health with frustration: “Why can’t I just be better”, “everything would be easier if I could just get my act together.” I challenge you to consider how effective that method has been for you. For most, it leads to shame, and further difficulty obtaining their goals. By leading with compassion we say “I see this pain” and “There must be a reason.” By approaching with curiosity we are able to think more clearly, and take action more effectively.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma informed care aims to put you in the drivers seat of your own care. This means cultivating a space that feels safe for you, giving you informed choice on the treatments you engage with, and making you feel empowered through healing.
Change Takes Work
Therapy is often only one hour out of your week. We will not change your life in that hour, but I will give you tools and opportunities for goal setting so that you can feel in control of your life again and work towards change each day. If you want to commit to yourself again, I would love to walk along side you as your support.

I’m an inclusive, LGBTQ+ affirming practitioner. In therapy, it is important that we co-create a space where you feel safe. I welcome you to ask me any questions about my values in a free consultation so you can get a sense of our alignment.
